Police and left-wing radicals clashed last Tuesday in Montreal after the May Day demonstrations resulted in protesters attacking the police with explosives.
Three demonstrations took place in the city on International Workers Day, with one anti-capitalist group targeting police with rocks and fireworks.
Fearing the situation to become more volatile -and with far more fearsome weaponry, such as Molotov Cocktails- riot police charged on the group, firing tear gas and coming down on the crowd with batons.
One riot team immediately responded with a charge after being attacked with fireworks, sending protesters scurrying like rats, many abandoning their red banners in the streets.
A total of five arrests were made, withe the crime ranging from obstruction to mischief and armed assault of a police officer.
