Police shoot armed robber in Virginia Beach after hostage situation

On Friday night, police shot an armed robber after he and another suspect allegedly took a hostage inside a Boost Mobile store located in Virginia Beach.

According to WTKR, police initially received a call on Friday night around 7:26 p.m. about a robbery at gunpoint of two women on Wesleyan Drive. The suspects allegedly stole cell phones and a wallet.

During a search of the area, officers found the armed robbers around 8:10 p.m. at the Boost Mobile store on Newtown Road. The suspects proceeded to take a bystander hostage, placing a gun to the victim’s head and exiting the store.

WAVY reported the suspects then fled the scene on foot, leaving the hostage free and unharmed. Officers chased the two men into an alley off Baker Road.

In the alleyway, an officer and one of the suspects exchanged gunfire. The suspect was hit by police gunfire numerous times. The second armed robber fled the scene.

Officers administered first aid to the injured suspect while awaiting medical assistance.

Paramedics rushed the man, described as a Hispanic male, to a nearby hospital. He is expected to recover from his injuries.

None of the police officers involved in the incident were injured.

The second suspect is still at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

Police have described him as an African-American man with short dark hair, approximately 18-years-old and wearing dark clothing.

There is an active search for the suspect and anyone with information on his whereabouts should contact the Virginia Beach police department.
