A father died Halloween night after someone, possibly wearing a Michael Myers mask from the movie “Halloween,” shot him several times, authorities said.
Deputies from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to a reported shooting in the 1300 block of Hawkes Drive late Thursday. The victim was not identified, but a homicide investigator said the man was in the garage of his home where his two children lived when an unidentified shooter opened fire.
“We did hear that some of the neighbors saw the suspect possibly wearing a Halloween mask. We were told it was possibly a Michael Myers mask from the ‘Halloween’ movie,” said Sgt. M. Ritchiy in an interview with OnScene TV Thursday night. “Now, is that the same person that did the shooting? We’re not sure at this time, but someone of that description was seen in the area.”
The two juveniles were unharmed, and have since have since been released into the custody of their grandmother, according to a news release from the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.
The children’s mother, who was the estranged wife of the man killed Halloween night, was killed in what police believe was a murder in late August, according to the release. The Harris County Sheriff’s Office did not specify whether investigators believe the two alleged homicides were connected.
Deputies are still working to identify the shooter, a sheriff’s office spokesperson told the Chronicle Friday. Investigators are currently reviewing nearby camera footage and speaking with witnesses.
