A Washington, D.C. Council candidate was the victim of an armed carjacking over the weekend.

The incident was caught on surveillance camera at a gas station in the northeaster part of the city and police have now released the footage.

Council candidate Nate Fleming was walking to the driver’s side of his car, reportedly about to leave the gas station when an SUV pulled up next to him and multiple gunmen jumped out.

The suspects threatened him at gunpoint before driving off in his BMW.

“This happened in broad daylight,” Fleming said. “I’m angry this happened, we must do the work to eliminate the circumstances that led to this violent act.”

The suspects were all wearing masks and hooded sweatshirts and no arrests have yet been made.

Fleming tweeted on Saturday he was “shocked” when he was attacked but not surprised, “given the increase in carjackings and the crisis facing young people in this city. The perpetrators of violent crime are getting younger and younger.”
