A man died and a woman was injured in a shooting in Kansas City’s North Town Fork Creek neighborhood Tuesday, police said.

Officers on patrol around 11:30 p.m. heard the sound of gunshots to their east, across Highway 71, police said in a news release. They responded near East 55th Street and South Benton Avenue, where they found a man and a woman with gunshot wounds.

Officers helped the victims and called for paramedics. The man and woman were taken to a hospital by ambulance.

The man was pronounced dead at a hospital around 1 a.m. Wednesday. The woman was still receiving treatment for non life-threatening injuries.
