A female officer from Mississippi traded her blues for orange after she was caught stealing shoes in a Dick’s Sporting Goods store.
Robin Conner, who served on the Columbus Police Department, was apprehended with $140 shoes in her police cruiser.
Conner was wearing her police uniform at the time and ultimately threw away her two years of service for footwear.
According to WTVA, Conner was arrested by her own agency, who had been called to the scene on Wednesday afternoon.
She was eventually identified and brought to justice.
Conner, who is 33, frequently shared notices from her law enforcement agency on social media and appeared to be an upstanding citizen on the surface.
The disgraced officer was charged with misdemeanor shoplifting.
“We have a job to do and we’re held to a higher standard. And the community is just starting to trust us, and to take this gut punch really hurts,” said CPD Chief Joseph Daughtry in a statement. “That’s why we fulfilled our obligation, not only to the store but to the community.”
On Thursday morning, the city council voted 5–0 to fire her from the police department.
According to ZipRecruiter, the average salary of a police officer in Columbus, Mississippi, is $56,000 a year.
