Evansville police have released body camera footage that shows the moments leading up to the fatal shooting of a man who appeared to be inebriated and who also pulled a replica handgun on officers.
58-year-old Douglas Kemp was pulled over for speeding but after a brief conversation in which he slurred his words, name-dropped, and even threatened officers with retaliation if they didn’t let him go, the situation escalated.
When officers asked Kemp to get out of the car he pulled an imitation Beretta handgun, forcing the officers to open fire on him and fatally shoot him. It was only later determined that Kemp’s weapon was a BB gun.
