The man who wounded two Tennessee police officers has reportedly taken his own life— and it has been revealed that he is the son of Nashville’s top law enforcement officer.
John Drake Jr., the son of Metropolitan Nashville Police Chief John Drake, was found Tuesday night with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, effectively ending the manhunt for his arrest.
Drake is accused of shooting Ashely Boleyjack and Gregory Kern, two police officers from the now-infamous La Vergne Police Department.
The agency gained a poor reputation after the department-wide sex scandal involving Maegan Hall, which resulted in several firings and resignations.
Prior to his death, Drake was added to the Tennessee Bureau of Investigations’ most wanted list and was considered armed and dangerous.
According to NBC, officers closing in on Drake reported hearing a “muffled gunshot from an outbuilding and discovered his body shortly after clearing the structure.
On Saturday, Chief John Drake spoke of his estranged son.
“I am shocked and deeply saddened to learn that my estranged son, with whom I have had very minimal contact over many years, is the suspect in this afternoon’s shooting of the two La Vergne police officers,” he said in a statement.
Drake noted that his son was a convicted felon who had taken on a life of crime and that they had not had much contact over the years.
Both wounded officers from the LVPD are reported to be in stable condition.
