A picture of Wetumka Police Chief Joe Berry wearing nothing but his underwear has gone viral over social media, reaching teenagers in the small town.
Berry, declined to speak on camera, but told KOCO over the phone he sent the selfie to his girlfriend six months ago. A brief statement about the embarrassing photo was given by Assistant Chief James Lane.
“At this time it is currently under investigation. We have found no wrongdoings of the chief at this time. It is an invasion of privacy between two consenting adults, and at this time we are not going to make any more statements,” he said.
Although it did not disappear completely, the department’s Facebook page was recently deleted. The chief also said the image was leaked to the Internet when some kids got a hold of his former girlfriend’s phone and stole the picture.
When asked if they could face charges Lane responded, “When our investigation is done we will turn it over to the District Attorney’s office, who will make the final determination.”
