An internal investigation has been launched after a Facebook video went viral showing a Philadelphia police officer pulling a female suspect by the hair, kicking her in order to get her on the ground, and then pinning her as he handcuffs the woman.
According to CBS3 News, the arrest was made on Wednesday.
At the beginning of the video, you can hear the suspect, identified as Khalil Harvin, tell the officer to get off her. When the officer says ‘no’ Harvin tells him ‘I’m about to spit on you.’
In the video, you can hear the suspect and other bystanders yell at the officers to back off and called the use of force unnecessary.
The department has not given a reason for the original stop but a friend of the suspect, who was in the car, believes it could be because the vehicle was previously reported stolen.
