Syracuse, NY — A person died Monday morning after falling from the 9th story of a downtown Syracuse office building.

The death is being investigated as a suicide, said Lt. Matthew Malinowski, a spokesperson for the Syracuse police.

Emergency crews responded to the 200 block of South Warren Street shortly after 11 a.m. following the incident at the University Building, an office building at the corner of South Warren and East Washington streets.

Police and fire trucks closed off South Warren Street while investigating the death. A small crowd gathered on the downtown street. An open window could be seen on the building.

The person fell from an office on the 8th floor. It is nine stories up because the first two floors of the building are the lobby and mezzanine.

A mixture of white-collar offices fill the historic office building, 120 E. Washington St.. It’s unclear which office the person fell from.
