Several fights broke out Thursday evening as the graduation ceremony at Westwood Regional High School in Bergen County was winding down, authorities said.

One person was hospitalized while several others suffered minor injuries but declined to be treated, Washington Township police said.

Charge are pending against those responsible, police said.

“This was supposed to be an enjoyable night that the Westwood High School Senior class worked hard for and have been waiting for, which has been tainted due to the egregious behavior by some,” police said.

A video posted on X, formerly Twitter, shows two separate fights on the football field, each with two people rolling around on the ground as others attempted to separate them.

Authorities, who are continuing their investigation, said they aware aware of videos of the brawl circulating on social media.

Anyone with videos or information is asked to contact Detective Sgt. Severio Fasciano at SFasciano@washtwppolice.org.

Principal Frank Connelly indirectly referenced the disruption in a post on X on Friday morning.

“I am so proud of each and everyone you,” Connelly wrote to the graduates. “It is an honor to serve as your principal and to be part of this amazing community. I refuse to allow anything to take away from that.”

Students from Westwood and Washington Township attend the school, which enrolls about 840 students.
