The standoff was approaching its twelfth hour when the shooting happened.
Police responded to a domestic violence call Thursday evening. The male suspect apparently ran into a room, barricaded himself, and told officers he had a gun.
SWAT was called in late last night before they tried to breach the room around 3 a.m. Friday morning. The suspect fired off multiple rounds through the door, striking the Barberton officer.
Other SWAT members returned fire and killed the suspect.
An investigation is still underway.
