COLUMBUS, Ohio — A woman is accused of using a stolen vehicle in February to hit a police officer, who then shot the woman from the hood of the moving vehicle, reports say.

The Dispatch reports the officer, a sergeant with the department, was in stable condition at OhioHealth Grant Medical Center after suffering possible broken bones. The woman driving the car was in serious condition at OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital.

Police tell WCMH Channel 4 that the owner of a 2015 Toyota Camry called 911 at about 3:20 p.m. when they saw their vehicle being stolen. An initial attempt by police to stop the car was unsuccessful when it sped off and officers decided not to pursue it.

The vehicle again was spotted by police about 30 minutes later in the parking lot of a Sheetz gas station, WBNS Channel 10 reports. The vehicle went into the parking lot of a shopping center and was driving “erratically,” police tell WBNS.

Police were able to block off the exits to the plaza. The vehicle initially began backing up, but then sped forward and hit the sergeant, reports say.

The car drove around the parking lot with the officer on the hood. He fired several shots at the woman and she was hit at least once, reports say.

The woman was able to continue driving and went through a grassy area to leave the parking lot as the sergeant fell off the vehicle, reports say. She crashed head-on into two vehicles as she approached an entrance ramp to Interstate 71 north on East Dublin-Granville Road.

The woman was then taken into custody, reports say. The drivers of the two other vehicles had minor injuries.

The identities of the sergeant and the suspect have not been released.
