A Texas police officer responding to a high speed chase is getting a lot of attention after he was spotted wearing body armor and plaid shorts.
He was one of several Houston-area police officers who engaged in hot pursuit of a vehicle that attempted to evade police during Thursday morning’s rush hour traffic, fleeing for over two hours as the chase went from Baytown to Houston.

With SWAT eventually boxing in the offending vehicle, one officer exited his truck with a scoped carbine, plate carrier and knee-length plaid shorts, clearly responding while off-duty.
As ABC-13’s helicopter hovered overhead, the cameraman became fixated on the rifleman’s “rad” shorts.
The cameraman, however, wasn’t the only one. Several users of Twitter and Reddit immediately began chiming in.
“Anything goes in the 90s,” one redditor wrote. “Such dedication.”
“Local Dad randomly joins chase,” one officer joked, mimicking a headline.
Our SWAT officers are on call 24/7/365, often dropping what they are doing in an instant to respond and protect the public. Kudos to the officer for responding so quickly and looking stylish while doing it! #likeaboss #casualcophttps://t.co/3YZEuIvHSD

The Houston Police Officers’ Union identified the man only as a dedicated SWAT member of HPD, who is on call 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
