A 29-year veteran of the LAPD became the target of four would-be burglars.
The off duty cop – who is a lieutenant in the department’s Pacific division – was asleep Tuesday morning when the attempted burglary took place at his San Gabriel home.
The police officer apparently heard noises and confronted two of the suspects inside the house along Los Olivos Drive. He fired two to three rounds, hitting both of them.
A retired doctor who lives next door ran over to treat the suspect who was shot in the leg and lying in the driveway.
“All I saw him was with the gun drawn on top of the guy. He called for help, and I went over and helped him out,” said Dr. William Loskta.
The other wounded suspect is reportedly in critical condition and was taken to the hospital by the other two juveniles who fled with him, from the scene. The one who was shot in the leg and treated by the neighbor is in stable condition– according to the local ABC affiliate.
The suspects were all said to be juveniles ranging in age from 15 to 17 years old.
The police officer whose home was targeted did not use his service revolver, KABC reports. The investigation is ongoing.
