The NYPD is scrambling to get the recent surge of gun violence under control in New York City, but a brazen attack in broad daylight is showing the dangers people are facing.

According to the NY Post, gun violence in NYC has doubled from last year.

Now, the NYPD has released video of a masked gunman chasing down a person, opening fire, and nearly striking two children with gunfire.

The children, a 10-year-old girl and her five-year-old brother, where on their way to the local bodega to purchase some candy. That’s when the victim, who was trying to escape the masked gunman, tripped over the children and knocked them down. The gunman fired multiple rounds at the person, striking him three times. Once in the back and one in each leg. Thankfully, the gunman did not hit either child.

Residents in the area are not shocked by what they saw, “I see all this nonsense everyday all day,” a woman who lives in the neighborhood said.

The shooting happened Thursday evening.

Police are still searching for the gunman.

The victim in this case was taken to the hospital and underwent surgery. He is expected to survive.

So far, the Bronx has seen the largest increase in shootings compared to 2020. This, despite last year being a year of civil unrest after the death of George Floyd.

So far, police have recorded 211 shootings this year, compared to 97 just a year ago.
