Suspended NYPD probationary officer Nicholas Batka has been charged with manslaughter for an early morning Saturday crash that killed 21-year-old MIT student Andrew Esquivel and badly injured several of his friends.
The group was walking in Williamsburg, Brooklyn when Batka jumped the curb and plowed into them. He’d apparently been drinking heavily that night and even posted a photo on Facebook holding eight shots of liquor. Batka was scheduled to return to work just four hours later.
Now Pix 11 is reporting that two NYPD cops who were out drinking with Batka that night have been placed on “modified duty.”
A police source told the local NY station that Jeremy Rodriguez and Emmanuel Collada– both with the Manhattan Transit Task Force– have been stripped of their guns and shields “for the good of the department.”
