NYPD officers could face discipline for not wearing a mask

A brand new memo sent out within the NYPD states that officers who ignore the state’s mask mandate may face unspecified “disciplinary action.”

According to the NY Post, all officers were told, “They are required to wear face coverings at all times when performing duties in public areas and Department facilities and whenever social distancing is not possible.”

Lawmakers have been pressuring the NYPD to make sure their officers have been complying with the state laws after multiple photos and videos show officers working without masks.

It’s important to note the memo was not sent out by Police Commissioner Dermot Shea, but instead the Department’s Human Resources Division.
