NYPD officer slashed across the face and neck in Brooklyn

A 14-year NYPD veteran was slashed in the face while trying to break a fight in Brooklyn over the weekend.

The NY Daily News reports that Officer Denisha Pierre was cut on the left side of her face– from her cheek to her neck –during the incident in Brownsville on Sunday.

Pierre- who is assigned to Patrol Borough Brooklyn North’s anti-crime team — was reportedly in plainclothes when she and other officers responded to a large fight at about 1 AM.

One of the suspects, 27-year old Xiomara Velez, slashed Pierre with a boxcutter as she was trying to break up the fight.

There’s reportedly been a sharp rise in similar crimes with razors, knives and other cutting instruments recently — with 21 % more reported so far, compared to the same time last year.

Velez was charged with assaulting a police officer, menacing and weapons possession, according to the Daily News article. Pierre had to be taken to a local hospital to receive treatment for superficial cuts.
