An injured NYPD officer fired her weapon while trying to apprehend a group of suspected violent car thieves on Monday.
According to the NYPD, the police officer was watching a group of people believed to be connected to a crime spree that started yesterday.
The responding officers saw three people enter the stolen parked vehicle and approached it.
One of the suspects put the car in reverse and pinned an officer between the stolen vehicle and another parked car.
The officer then fired her weapon, striking the driver in the chest.
That officer is now recovering at a nearby hospital after suffering injuries to her legs and hip.
All of the suspects, including the one shot by the officer, are now in custody.
