An NYPD officer was assaulted during a seemingly unprovoked attack during routine inspections of smoke shops in the Bronx on Monday.

The assailant, identified as Jose Garcia, 45, snuck up behind the on-duty officer around 2 p.m. near 231st Street and Broadway and struck her in the back of the head with a bottle.

After striking her in the head, he attempted to continue his assault but other officers were able to detain him.

Footage captured by a witness as well as security camera footage of the incident was posted on social media.

Garcia, who has 11 previous arrests, was charged with assault, obstruction of government administration, resisting arrest, menacing, criminal possession of a weapon and harassment, according to the New York Post.

The injured officer is assigned to a Queens precinct but was in the Bronx for the smoke shop inspections that are allegedly in response to marijuana being illegally sold at shops.

She was taken to Saint Barnabas Hospital for treatment.
