NYPD officers will have to watch what they put on their uniforms because it just announced that officers caught wearing ‘politically oriented patches’ will now face disciplinary charges.
According to NBC New York, one officer has been punished after they were seen in a video wearing the questionable patch during a 2020 protest.
The NYPD has announced that the patch in question is being investigated and will see if other officers have been wearing them.
There is already an online movement by anti-police demonstrators who are searching for photos of officers wearing them.
Commissioner Dermot Shea tweeted saying, “Members of the NYPD must remain apolitical — it’s essential to public trust & officers’ ability to perform their jobs.”
