A New York woman is accused of luring a man for a date on Instagram, then kidnapping him and torturing him while demanding a $100,000 ransom.
The New York Post reports Valerie Rosario, 22, is facing charges of kidnapping and attempted murder after allegedly inviting a 24-year-old man to a Bronx apartment last month. Court documents say three men barged into the apartment, pistol-whipping the unnamed victim; they and Rosario then allegedly stripped him, “placed him in a bathtub, poured flammable substances on him, and burned him with a flame.”
The “multiple hours of torture” continued at a second NYC location where the group allegedly stabbed the victim multiple times during a FaceTime call with his brother as they demanded $100,000 in ransom.
“Give us one hundred thousand dollars or we will kill him,” one of the masked kidnappers allegedly said.
The Post reports police officers tracked down one of the alleged accomplices, Javier Vargas, to an address in Queens where he was sitting in a van with a knife. The victim was found in the back of the van, unconscious and “barely breathing”; he was taken to the hospital for treatment to multiple burns and stab wounds to his face, body, back and legs, according to the complaint.
Rosario, Vargas and another alleged kidnapper were remanded into custody. The case is expected to be presented before a grand jury on Tuesday, according to the Post.
Sources told the publication that Rosario and the victim were complete strangers. It is believed that she targeted him after he flashed money on his Instagram account.
