A New York corrections officer opened fire on her co-worker ex-boyfriend before taking off on a foot chase that resulted in her suicide.
47-year-old Keisha Brown arrived at the Long Island-based Queensboro Correctional Facility on Tuesday morning, demanding that ex-boyfriend Rasheem Lord, also a corrections officer, speak to her.
“Neither one of us are going to work today,” Brown told Lord as she pulled out her service pistol and shot at him.
Fortunately for Lord, Brown missed. However, she continued to give chase as he fled, firing wildly.
“She started shooting and one of those bullets hit my car,” said witness Rafael Macias. “She was shooting at him the same time she was running.”
One witness reported that she nearly emptied her magazine during the chase.
Lord eventually escaped into the prison complex, prompting Brown to shoot Lord’s car before taking her own life.
“As soon as I parked I got out to check myself to see if I got hit, and then I heard three shots more and I heard somebody scream, ‘Call an ambulance! She shot herself,’” Macias said. “She was on her back. [She] was face up. She wasn’t saying anything.”
According to the New York Post, Brown died at the scene.
Sources say that both Brown and Lord had been together for about a half-decade, but had not been a couple for a few years.
