NFL running back Adrian Peterson was arrested at Los Angeles International Airport on Sunday after a fight with his wife prompted his plane to turn around.

Peterson was on a flight headed to Huston, Texas when his plane had to return to the gate because of “a verbal and physical altercation” between a man and a woman, airport officials told ESPN. After an investigation, the man was arrested.

The flight was taxing around 8:30 a.m. when it had to return, KABC reported. Peterson was arrested and booked on a charge of “corporal injury of a spouse” the Los Angeles Police Department’s Pacific Division said.

36-year-old Peterson was released after he posted $50,000 bail, the station reported from online court records.

The rest of the passengers, including the woman, were able to continue on the flight, KABC reported from airport police.

A representative for Peterson told TMZ that the couple had a “verbal argument on a flight” and he was removed from the plane. The representative called it a “private misunderstanding” and that it is expected it to be resolved soon.

Peterson is scheduled to be in court on June 16, ESPN reported.

It has been 8 years since Peterson was charged with felony child abuse when he used a switch to spank his then 4-year-old son. The boy suffered cuts and bruises all over his body. Peterson pleaded no contest to misdemeanor reckless assault and was on probation for two years. He also paid a $4,000 fine and performed 80 hours of community service.

Following a one-year suspension from the league, Anderson returned to the Minnesota Vikings, where he played until the 2017 season. Peterson has spent time on six other teams since then, most recently the Seattle Seahawks. He is not currently signed to any team.
