New Jersey woman on the run after murdering her wife with wine chiller

A New Jersey woman killed her wife with a wine chiller, and is now on the run, authorities said Tuesday.

Cops were called to an apartment on Creek Road in Brick on Sunday after receiving a call about an “unresponsive female.”

When they arrived they discovered the lifeless body of 32-year-old Rebecca Gavilanez-Alectus in the bedroom.

Although authorities didn’t describe how she died, the medical examiner later determined it was a homicide and “a cylindrical container used for the purpose of chilling wine was utilized in the commission of the murder,” the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office said in a statement.

Officials are now hunting for Mayra Gavilanez-Alectus, 48, the victim’s wife and her suspected killer.

“Further investigation ultimately determined that Mayra Gavilanez-Alectus did, in fact, cause the victim’s death,” officials said.

She faces multiple charges, including murder. However, authorities said she is presently considered a fugitive.

“Our focus now is to find Mayra Gavilanez-Alectus and bring her into custody,” Ocean County Prosecutor Bradley Billhimer said.

Anyone with information about Mayra Gavilanez-Alectus’ whereabouts are urged to contact Detective Ken Steinberg of the Brick Township Police Department at (732) 262-1113 or Detective John Carroll of the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office Major Crime Unit at (732) 929-4760, ext. 3964.
