Nearly 700 people working at seven Mississippi agricultural processing plant were detained by Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents on Wednesday. ICE says those 680 people do not have federal authorization to work in this country, and may have entered the U.S. illegally.
According to NPR, ICE officials identified the plants after months of investigating.
More than 600 agents surrounded the poultry processing plants before detaining the suspected illegal immigrants and seizing business documents.
Workers with proper documentation were allowed to leave.
