A Metro Nashville police officer, attacked while trying to break up a fight at a gas station, is back home recovering.
According to WSMV, Officer Autumn Manning tried to break up an early Monday morning fight between Marcelo Mendoza and another man. Mendoza was apparently striking the bloody victim with a pool cue.
Officer Manning ordered Mendoza to stop and put the weapon down. When he refused, Manning was able to wrestle the pool cue away before getting one of Mendoza’s hands cuffed.
With the other hand free, Mendoza was able to shake Officer Manning off and then punched her several times in the face and body.
The beating victim was able to interfere and Mendoza ran off. He was eventually picked up by police later.
The beaten victim told other officers that Mendoza had attacked him for no reason.
Officer Manning is now home recovering after being transported to the hospital.
No word on what charges Mendoza faces.
