The Los Angeles Police Department recently released body cam footage from two officers in a fatal OIS in the Van Nuys area.
The department says the officers were responding to a call of a woman screaming inside an apartment complex around 4 a.m. on December 31st.
Officers located the room where the disturbance was coming from.
In the video, You can hear the man, identified as 18-year-old Rony Parras-Mendez, yelling at the woman, even saying he was going to kill her.
The two officers immediately called for backup before ordering Parras-Mendez to open the door and to come out peacefully.
A naked Parras-Mendez eventually opened the door with a nine-inch knife in his hands. He then drops the weapon, disobeys the officer’s commands by picking the knife back up, and runs toward one of the officers.
Both officers then shot Parras-Mendez, who was later pronounced dead at the scene.
Both officers were uninjured.
LAPD later confirmed Parras-Mendez had earlier assaulted another man who lives in the apartment complex.
