Motorcyclist takes on mall escalator to evade police

On Friday, the Surrey Royal Canadian Mounted Police released a video taken last month during a hot pursuit of a motorcyclist gone wild.

According to ABC News, surveillance video showed the motorcyclist driving down a mall escalator, through doors and along walkways as he fled from the police. Shoppers could be seen dodging out of his way as he drove through an automatic sliding glass door.

The incident was recorded on February 20, but only became public when it was posted accidently on the internet while being used for training purposes by the Canadian police.

The Washington Times reported that the man led the police through Guildford Town Centre in Surrey, British Columbia. Peggy Howard, the general manager of the shopping center, said that the motorcyclist never went into the mall, but rode down a parking deck escalator into a Walmart vestibule.

As the man leaves the shopping center, the footage switches from mall surveillance to video taken by a Canadian police helicopter. The aircraft followed the motorist as he drove on highway overpasses, sidewalks and through a nearby neighborhood.

Police last saw the man in the Langley-Surrey area. They found the abandoned motorcycle, but the driver, believed to be in his 40’s, eluded authorities.
