A young mother pushing a 3-month-old baby in a stroller was fatally shot on an Upper East Side street Wednesday, police and sources said.
The 20-year-old woman was ambushed steps from Samuel Seabury Playground on E. 95 St. near Lexington Ave. when she was struck once in the head just before 8:25 p.m., cops said.
Medics rushed her to Metropolitan Hospital but she could not be saved, police and sources said.
The baby was unharmed and taken to an area hospital, sources said.
Mayor Adams was briefed on the shooting and headed to the scene where a woman broke down in tears, begging him to keep the city safe.
“I’m a nurse, and even I don’t want to see that,” said one neighbor as she watched police take evidence. “I don’t want to move, (but) it’s getting worse. Worse than it was.”
Police were still searching for the shooter, who took off on foot eastbound on E. 95th St., sources said.
