A welfare check led to an arrest for a murder that happened nearly two years earlier.
According to KNXV, Briar Aven and her mother Tara Aven killed Tara’s mother and left her body inside the home to decompose.
Police stumbled into the murder after a neighbor called police saying she hadn’t seen 77-year-old Sandra Aven for a long time.
An officer was sent to perform a welfare check, and after mother and daughter gave inconsistent information the officer entered the home to perform a search.
Both Briar and Tara confessed to the murder to police
The two also continued to cash “numerous monthly payment checks” intended for Sandra.
They now face multiple charges including murder.
