Jon Jones was only supposed to be in Las Vegas for a weekend, instead, he may be extending his stay due to an arrest at a resort.
According to ESPN, MMA superstar Jon Jones faces misdemeanor domestic battery and injuring or tampering with vehicle charges. Jones was arrested early Friday morning on Las Vegas Boulevard near a resort.
Police have not identified the victim or what lead up to the incident.
Jones was in Vegas for a UFC Hall-of-Fame induction for his 2013 fight against Alexander Gustafsson. He’s been arrested in Vegas before for drug and other charges.
UFC President Dana White told media outlets, “It’s not even shocking anymore. When we bring him here, it’s almost expected. We can’t even get him to Las Vegas for less than 12 hours and induct him into the Hall of Fame. It’s a problem. This guy’s got a lot of demons, man, a lot of demons.”
He is being held at the Clark County detention center for his Saturday afternoon court appearance. He’s expected to make bail and return to his home in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
Jones says he’s been preparing for his next fight, which he hopes to compete at the heavyweight level. He told reporters at the event he weighed 255 pounds, just 15 pounds from the 270 mark he needed to reach.
Jones has held the light heavyweight title for nine years, only losing it on a controversial disqualification.
