DeRIDDER, Louisiana — A Louisiana woman who recently resigned as DeRidder’s mayor now is facing a rape charge after investigators accused her of engaging in sex acts with a juvenile.
Misty Roberts, 42, also is charged with contributing to the delinquency of juveniles, according to a news release from Louisiana State Police. Roberts turned herself in on Thursday, police say.
Police say they began investigating after being notified of the accusations by the Beauregard Parish Sheriff’s Office. Two juveniles were interviewed, with one of the juveniles confirming that Roberts “had sexual intercourse with one juvenile victim while employed as mayor,” the news release says.
KJAS reports Roberts resigned as mayor on July 27 upon learning she was under investigation.
Jail records show Roberts was released from jail Thursday after posting a $75,000 bond.
