A Ranking County deputy was sent to the hospital for testing after being stabbed with a needle by a suspect in Florence.

The incident started when deputies responded to a call where 39-year-old Don Summerlin was accused of attacking two women.

Summerlin however had fled the scene before deputies arrived but was later stopped by authorities. During the stop, Summerlin reversed his vehicle into a patrol car but deputies were able to tase him and stop his vehicle.

During the arrest, Summerlin pulled out a hypodermic needle and stabbed the deputy. Both were taken to the hospital for testing, according to the AP.

Summerlin faces a list of charges, including assaulting a police officer.
