The Milwaukee Police Department has released dramatic body camera footage showing the events that lead up to and the fatal shooting of an armed suspect who fled a traffic stop.
31-year-old Mario Hobson was the passenger in a vehicle that had been pulled over. When he and the driver were told to exit the vehicle, he managed to get into the driver’s seat and fled the scene, knocking the two officers back.
Following the pursuit, the officers found Hobson in the back of another vehicle. As he was told to exit that vehicle, he produced a gun, forcing officers to draw their weapons.
Hobson then exited the vehicle with the gun in his hand, still refusing officers’ commands and apparently pointing the gun at his own head.
As he turned towards the officers, he was fatally shot.
The police chief stated they released the footage in a new effort aimed at transparency from the department.
