A Florida woman was arrested by the Okaloosa County Sheriff’s Office for having sexual relationship with an underage student.
Hayley Hallmark was charged on Friday for engaging in illicit activity with a minor at Ruckel Middle School, with the official charge being “lewd and lascivious conduct with a student by an authority figure.”
The relationship lasted from 2017 to 2020, and involved a female student.
On Thursday, the Okaloosa County School District placed Hallmark on administrative leave following a report, and an arrest was made the following day.
Hallmark reportedly began the relationship via “sexting,” though it eventually became physical, with the encounters taking place in Hallmark’s classroom, in her home and at the minor’s place of residence.
The Okaloosa County School District has since released a statement on the matter.
“Okaloosa County teachers represent the highest standard of professionalism, ethics, and morality,” Superintendent Marcus Chambers said in the statement. “When an educator fails to live up to that high standard, we’re all impacted. Student safety and well-being is our highest priority, and we expect our employees’ conduct to be consistent with that priority.”
According to Northwest Florida Daily News, it is unknown if Hallmark has bonded out of the Okaloosa County Jail.
