Three uniformed NYPD officers are thankful to be alive Monday morning after they were ambushed by a masked gunman who fired multiple rounds at the officers while they were sitting in their patrol car.
According to the NY Post, the officers were in the neighborhood and saw a suspicious person wearing a mask. As the officers attempted to speak with the man, he pulled out a gun and began firing at them.
One officer got out of the vehicle to pursue the gunman on foot, the other two called for backup and tried to tail the gunman.
After losing sight, a neighbor called the police to report a man trying to break into his backyard.
Seven officers responded to the call and exchanged gunfire with the suspect before apprehending him.
All of the officers were unharmed in both firefights.
The suspect was shot and eventually died while being treated at the hospital. NYPD has not released his identity.
