El Monte, CA – Police shot an armed man in California who had just robbed a Yum Yum Donuts shop and was threatening them with a knife.
The suspect used a knife to tap on the glass of the 24-hour window at the doughnut shop and demanded coffee and doughnuts. He walked away with out paying according to authorities.
As police arrived they spotted the man on the sidewalk behaving erratically. The suspect threw his coffee on one of the officers who approached him. The officer attempted to use a Taser on the man, but to no effect.
A second officer also attempted to tase the man but it also had no effect, according to KTLA 5.
It was when the suspect raised the knife to throw it that officers finally shot him. The suspect was hit in the leg, and the knife flew in the direction of one of the officers, according to authorities.
No officers were injured and the suspect is expected to survive the gunshot wound.
