Update:

Buena Park Police have released the dashcam video showing a rampaging man going attempting to shoot his estranged wife while she drove a school bus and then he turned the gun toward officers.

Police also confirmed that there was a six-year-old boy on the bus as Cedric Baxter fired shots from his vehicle toward his wife as she drove the bus.

The man who opened fire at a school bus last week and then led police in a pursuit before officers shot and killed him in the parking lot of the Buena Park School District’s headquarters targeted his estranged wife in the attack, officials said on Thursday, Sept. 9.

Cedric Baxter, 60, of Compton was trying to kill the woman while she was behind the wheel of the bus near Orangethorpe and Western Avenues at about 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 3, Buena Park Police Sgt. Chad Weaver said. She and the student riding with her escaped unharmed.

Patrol officers witnessed the car-to-bus shooting and chased after the gunman’s vehicle for between 10 and 15 minutes. Baxter eventually rammed his car through the locked gates of the Buena Park School District building at 6885 Orangethorpe Avenue, where he was shot and killed by police.

He had a lengthy criminal history and had been on parole, Buena Park police said in a news release. But his release was revoked after his wife requested a domestic-violence related restraining order against him.

That order was filed against Baxter in Los Angeles County Superior Court on Aug. 27, according to court records. He was wanted for violating his parole at the time of the shooting.

Further information regarding what transpired between Baxter and officers in the moments leading up to his death were not immediately released. Orange County District Attorney’s investigators are looking into the matter, which is standard practice whenever police or deputies shoot at someone while on duty.
