A Minnesota Police Department got a helping hand from mother nature in capturing a car thief.
According to the Moorehead Police Department, 36-year-old Dennis Merritt stole an SUV early Tuesday morning, led police on a chase, and was eventually caught after he and the vehicle became trapped in a snowbank.
Police say Merritt rammed the back end of the SUV into a squad car to first get away.
Officers eventually called off their pursuit when they realized the speed and road conditions became too dangerous.
After first losing track of Merritt, an off-duty officer heading home spotted the stolen vehicle and notified dispatch.
Another chase ensued, but this time Merritt lost control and ended up trapped in a snowbank.
He and another passenger were arrested and face multiple charges.
