The LaGrange Police Department has released a video detailing a November incident that shows an exchange of gunfire, an armed vehicle charging into a home, and a fiery finale to an hours-long standoff.
According to 11 Alive, police were originally called to the home to perform a welfare check on two eight-year-old children. Apparently, one of the boys had called police saying their father was having a seizure. When police arrived, the children met the officers outside and said their father was on the floor with guns and was wearing a vest.
Eventually, police made contact with the man via texts. The suspect responded with disturbing threats.
As police began clearing the neighborhood, the suspect stepped out and began firing at the officers. He retreated back into his home, only to come out again to shoot at a drone.
An armored bearcat vehicle was called in to assist the officers. The suspect fired multiple rounds at the armored vehicle, even disabling one.
It’s estimated that the man fired 300 rounds of ammunition at the officers.
After more than a day of attempted negotiations and gunfire exchanges, police decided to break into the home with a robot. After being unable to find the man inside the home, police noticed a fire grow inside the building.
Police and firefighters were unable to enter as the fire caused unused ammunition inside the home sent bullets flying.
Police did eventually find human remains inside after the fire burned the home down.
