An SUV crashed into an Oregon State Police vehicle after speeding through at 30 mph zone while going more than 100 mph early Friday morning.

At about 12:30 a.m. Friday, a Washington County Sheriff’s Office deputy saw a white 2003 Honda Pilot on Highway 47 enter Gaston at 118 mph in a 30 mph zone. The deputy followed the SUV as it entered Yamhill County at 122 mph before losing the vehicle and notifying Yamhill County dispatch of the reckless driver.

A Yamhill County Sheriff’s Office deputy found the SUV and was unsuccessful in stopping it before to turned north on Highway 47 back toward Washington County.

Police officers from Forest Grove and the Oregon State Police also responded and placed Stop Sticks on Highway 47 near Forest Grove. The Honda ran over the Stop Sticks at Highway 47 and Anderson Road but continued driving. A state trooper was outside his vehicle removing Stop Sticks at Highway 47 and B Street when the Honda crossed the southbound lanes at about 87 mph and crashed head-on into the patrol vehicle.

Washington County deputies arrested the driver, Kevin Flanagan of Gaston, for fourth-degree assault, reckless driving and other charges, as well as five unrelated outstanding warrants.

A woman who said she was pregnant was also in the Honda and had to be helped out of it by deputies after the crash. She had been listening to a scanner app on her cellphone, according to the Washington County Sheriff’s Office. She was taken to the hospital for evaluation and does not face any charges.
