A black man accused of slashing a woman’s neck due to her being white has been charged with a hate crime.
According to the New York Post, 25-year-old Gregory Alfred was extradited back to NYC after police detained him at his mother’s house in New Jersey over the weekend.
Expected to be arraigned in Brooklyn sometime today, he will likely face charges of attempted murder and felony assault with hate crime classifications. Prior to this, he had been arrested over 20 times.
On March 10th, Alfred slashed the neck 53-year-old Polish native Janina Popko as she was walking down the street. He would later tell police that he was slashing white people due to their involvement in “the system” that prevented him from freely smoking weed.
Alfred was turned in by his mother after she discovered his involvement in the incident.
