A Kentucky man is missing his hand and his freedom after he attempted to blow up two Spencer County deputies.
54-year-old David Allen Blake of Mount Eden was taken into custody after authorities were alerted to an explosion at his home last Tuesday.
When deputies arrived, they asked Blake to come out. Refusing to leave peacefully, Blake fired a handgun at the deputies, prompting them to contact the Kentucky State Police and determine that there were homemade explosives in the home.
According to Trooper Bernis Napier of the Kentucky State Police, the state police Special Response Team and Hazardous Devices Team were called to the home.
During the standoff, a second explosion was heard- this time with the device detonating in Blake’s hand, mutilating the appendage.
Rushed to the hospital for treatment, a warrant was issued for Blake’s arrest on Friday and served over the weekend.
According to WDRB, Blake faces charges of two counts of attempted murder of a police officer.
