Thomas Bilotti of Belmar, New Jersey, was arrested for stealing from Walmart and assaulting a security guard. Bilotti attempted to steal $840 of various items and a flat-screen television set from the local Brick, New Jersey Walmart store on Tuesday.
Local police responded to the scene of the crime at approximately 4:30. According to police, Daniel Meyer, an employee of Walmart, tried to stop Bilotti as he left the store with the stolen merchandise. Bilotti allegedly assaulted Meyer as he tried to make his escape. According to NJ.com, the suspect was found in the vicinity of the Walmart store by a police officer and then placed under arrest.
According to the Asbury Park Press, the defendant was formally charged with shoplifting and second-degree robbery. His bail was set at $150,000 without a 10 percent option. He is currently being held in the Ocean County Jail and is scheduled to appear in court on June 18 at 9 a.m. at the Brick Township Municipal Court.
