A week after dropping all charges against the Master Tournament winner, the Louisville Police Department released more images, video, and information about the traffic incident that led to Scottie Scheffler’s arrest.
According to WDRB, the images show the injuries and torn pants Officer Bryan Gillis sustained when Scheffler bumped him with his car as he was trying to enter Vahalla Country Club on the second day of the PGA Championship.
Gillis and another detective were conducting traffic after another vehicle collision turned fatal. Scheffler was trying to enter the country club to prepare for his upcoming round.
The images show Gillis with a scrapped knee and some gash on his wrist. He claims Scheffler dragged him 50 feet but no one else could corroborate that.
Louisville PD cited multiple officers for failure to turn on their body-worn cameras. Louisville PD claimed Scheffler “shares responsibility in this event” for performing an unlawful traffic maneuver.
In one of the dashcam videos, Scheffler and the officer driving him to jail exchange pleasantries and golf stories. Scheffler asked the officer, “What are the odds you think I’m gonna be able to play golf today, about 1%?” “Man, … who’s your lawyer?” Willis responded. “Uhh his name’s Danny?” Scheffler said. “Yeah I’d call Danny as soon as you get in there … but if I had to guess, I would say no,” Willis replied.
Scheffler was initially charged with a felony, which was reduced to a misdemeanor, and eventually dropped altogether last week.
