Louisiana State Trooper Adam Gaubert was sitting in his car on Saturday morning when a man approached his car. When he arrived, he pulled out a gun and began shooting. Police say it was just one of a string of deadly shootings perpetrated by the suspect, Matthew Mire.
According to the NY Post, a statewide manhunt began immediately after the fatal shooting of Trooper Gaubert. Mire was picked up around 10 p.m. Saturday night and faces multiple charges.
Police say Mire began a violent crime spree starting Friday around midnight. It’s believed Mire shot four people, killing one woman, before eventually turning his gun on Trooper Gaubert.
When police found him, Mire attempted to get away and led officers on a vehicle chase. He eventually took off on foot as he fired bullets at the pursuing officers. Those officers were unharmed and it only bought Mire a few more hours before he was eventually picked up. Details of Mire’s arrest have yet to be released.
Louisiana State Police released a statement saying, “Trooper Gaubert embodied everything we stand for; honor, duty, selfless service, and courage. In the days ahead, we will mourn his tragic death and honor his service to our department and the citizens of Louisiana.”
