Long Island police chief arrested as part of ongoing tampering investigation

Hempstead Police Chief Paul Johnson was arraigned in a Nassau County Courthouse earlier this morning after he, and three others were arrested.

According to News 12, three people, not including Johnson, were charged with tampering with public records, conspiracy, and official misconduct.

Johnson is accused of “fixing traffic tickets” at the request of a Hempstead trustee just before he was promoted to chief.
